The Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act
The NYS Forum IT Greening Work Group hosted a webinar on August 21, entitled The Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act.
Christian Grieco, Sr. Technical Consultant at Time Warner Cable moderated the session which was designed to familiarize attendees with the NYS Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act (http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/materials_minerals_pdf/ewastelaw2.pdf) and how it impacts them as customers who will be disposing of electronic equipment. State & local agencies, Municipalities, K-12 schools, BOCES, Higher Education & many other public sector entities have seen benefits as a result of the new law.
Presentations were given by: Mark Moroukian, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation; Tom Osterhout, Director of Administration & Support Services, NYS Office of General Services; and Peter Bennison, Vice President, Business Development, RCR&R.
The webinar opened with an explanation of the NYS Electronic Equipment Recycling & Reuse Act (http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/materials_minerals_pdf/ewastelaw2.pdf) and a discussion of the results of the first year of the program. An overview of resources that DEC has available to help State agencies and other public sector entities properly recycle e-waste was made available. The implementation of the e-waste law was detailed from the vendor perspective and included what is involved from the manufacturers' standpoint as well the logistics of collecting and recycling e-waste throughout the state.
