Portfolio Management -
Making Good Investment

The Project Management Workgroup hosted the event, "Portfolio Management - Making Good Investment" on February 8, 2018 at the NYS Forum office in Albany.

In this session, a panel of 3 experts discussed answers to a number of essential questions: Do you want to learn how others are managing their portfolios? How do we choose which projects to fund? What is the annual governance process for some of those in NYS?  The session included 3 presentations on Portfolio Management from different perspectives, followed by a panel discussion for questions and answers.

Presenting at this event were Vikas Mittal, Managing Director at Accenture, Anish Parikh, Principal Solution Consultant at Oracle, and Eric Huntington, Assistant Director - Project & Program Management Office - Health Cluster.

Session topics included:

  • Techniques used to determine which projects are chosen (e.g., rating projects based on expected value to be delivered by the project, resource requirements, and risk)
  • How to obtain stakeholder agreement based on an enterprise perspective
  • Managing stakeholder expectations as related to portfolio decisions
  • Benefits derived from using Portfolio Management techniques
  • NYS Annual Governance Cycle for the Health

The event concluded with an active and dynamic Q & A session involving those in attendance.
