A Hybrid Approach to a Successful Project

The September 14th session on Agile and Waterfall - A Hybrid Approach to a Successful Project included a number of topics revolving around Waterfall and Agile software. Hosted by the Project Management Workgroup, which event drew over 100 members both in person and on the webex, the event proved to be a constructive and informative presentation.

Presenting at this event was Matthew Carmichael, Vice President of SaQus IT Solutions, an Agile software development company. Matthew is CompTIA certified, a Certified Scrum Master, and a Microsoft Certified Professional with over 20,000 hours of Agile project experience. During his presentation, a number of topics were covered:

  • The various project roles and how they are utilized throughout the project. (Project Manager (PM), Scrum Master, Product Owner, Business Analyst, and Development Team member).
  • When to use Agile, when to use Waterfall, and when to use a hybrid approach
  • How to leverage the flexibility of Agile, while maintaining the accountability offered by Waterfall
  • How to satisfy executive management''s reporting needs while working on an Agile project
  • Tips on budgeting Agile project work

Following the presentation, there was an active and dynamic Q&A/Open Discussion session involving Agile and Waterfall Panelist practitioners. The event was extremely constructive and turned into an invigorating and captivating exchange of information and ideas providing much food for thought and plans for action
