Business Continuity from Emergency to Recovery
On March 17, 2016, The NYS Forum Business Continuity Workgroup hosted a panel presentation on the Office of the NYS Comptroller''s (OSC) Emergency Management Plan. The event drew a crowd of roughly 80 attendees (in person and on web) and turned into an invigorating and captivating exchange of information and ideas providing much food for thought and plans for action.
New York State Comptroller's Office Business Continuity from Emergency to Recovery featured a team of experts from the Office of the NYS Comptroller; Diane Renn, Director of Management Services, Division of Human Resources & Administration, Karen Adams, ITS2, Division of the Chief Information Officer, and Bradford Lawyer, Manager Enterprise Architecture, CIO. The Thursday afternoon event spotlighted the team's process of preparing for an unexpected event such as an emergency or outage, and their experience with Emergency Response, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery. Each panelist explained their roles and how they all work collaboratively to effectively implement their three prong approach when responding to emergencies.
The panelist also spoke about the "process and technology" used for each of the components - including the use of Recovery Planner from the perspective of a business user. The panelists provided examples to support their speaking points by using experiences that they''ve encountered, the process and methods employed with how they dealt with any issues, challenges, or objectives, and overall lessons learned.
Following the presentations, the event concluded with an active and dynamic Q & A session mediated by Girk Cakmak, Bowne Management Systems, where the audience asked questions and shared their own experiences and the panelists provided answers and additional insights. The presentation slide deck and presenter''s bio may be viewed at:
