Work Breakdown Structures:
The Foundation for Project Management Excellence

On September 17th, The NYS Forum Project Management Workgroup hosted an event entitled Work Breakdown Structures; The Foundation for Project Management Excellence. This session was led by the co-author of Work Breakdown Structures: The Foundation for Project Management Excellence, Robert T. Fried. The seasoned project management veteran and work breakdown structures (WBS) expert, Mr. Fried, spoke to a crowd of roughly 80 (In person and Webinar). The audience was able to learn and broaden their understanding of the one tool that is foundational to the practice of project management - the work breakdown structure. Mr. Fried shared not only the fundamentals of the WBS, but lessons on its practical application.

The audience was able to interact throughout the discussion with questions regarding areas such as use of the WBS for quality, risk, resource and communication planning; the WBS as a basis for procurement and financial planning; the WBS in the executing, monitoring and controlling of project phases; and more.

The event was extremely constructive and turned into an invigorating and captivating exchange of information and ideas providing much food for thought and plans for action.
