Session Description / Target Audience:

This risk assessment session will focus on techniques to help identify and mitigate risk in the business process. The objective is to provide a basic overview of risk and specific examples of how risks, as a component of business planning, are identified, monitored and mitigated.

We are seeking engaging speakers to join a 90-minute session, envisioned to include up to three (3) twenty-minute presentations and an interactive round table discussion with the audience.

The audience will include Government technology staff and executives, business and program staff, and ITCR membership. Our primary audience are individuals responsible for supporting and delivering programs. These are not risk officers and most have an informal exposure to risk assessment and risk management.

Presentation topics may include the following: (These are only examples. We are open to your ideas about how best to educate business managers about risk.)

  • Managing risk in multiple areas; financial, personnel, systems, etc.
  • Everyday risk: Real world examples of managers and teams avoiding pitfalls and keeping things on track
  • Who owns "risk"? Comptrollers, Risk Officers, Directors, Supervisors, etc.
  • The right time to manage risk: It's more than just project start or annual review
  • Case Study focused on risk
  • The Risk Road Trip; A car trip as a metaphor for what could go wrong; mechanical, directional, traffic, road conditions, etc.
  • Mitigation- the positive side of risk management: Strategies for how to keep going when things don't go right
  • How to Scan for Risks
  • Collaborative Risk Management, Involving peers and other stakeholders to avoid risk blind spots.

All presentations must be vendor neutral. Presentation content will be vetted by members of The NYS Forum Work Groups hosting this event. Feedback and recommendations regarding final presentation material will be provided by this group.

PLEASE NOTE THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT AND SCHEDULE LISTED BELOW, WHEN CONSIDERING SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL:

Presentation Guidelines - Rules of Engagement

  • Presentation must be made using The NYS Forum's Power Point template.
  • Presenter corporate logo and contact information should appear on the first and last Power Point slides only. Corporate logo must not appear on each individual slide.
  • The presenter must discuss the topic at an expert level, and direct the presentation toward the specific targeted audience identified.
  • 90-minute session, envisioned to include up to three (3) twenty-minute presentations and an interactive round table discussion with the audience.

Schedule

  • 2/27/2018 - Call for presenters distributed to vendor community.
  • 3/20/2018 - Deadline for proposals from vendors.
  • 3/26/2018- Selection/notification of presenters
  • 4/9/2018 - Deadline for first draft of presenter Power Points and related PLEASE NOTE: All PowerPoint presentations MUST be made on The NYS Forum PowerPoint template which will be provided by the workgroup member coordinating this event.
  • 4/16/2018 - Deadline for final presentation Power Points and related documents (1 week prior to event date). PLEASE NOTE: All Power Point presentations MUST be made on The NYS Forum Power Point template which will be provided by the workgroup member coordinating this event.
  • 4/19/2018 - Event Date. 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

As presentations are selected, presenters and/or their contacts will be notified to discuss an appropriate date, time and place for the presentation. The full schedule, as it pertains to draft and final Power Point presentation due dates, will be determined and provided accordingly to the event date.
