Call for Presenters

The NYS Forum Project Management Work Group is soliciting presentation submissions to be considered for the session topic of Portfolio Management.

IMPORTANT: Please read the information below thoroughly for details regarding how to submit your presenter information, what to present, important dates and rules of engagement.

Session Description - Targeted Audience: The objective of this Portfolio Management session is to share tactics for making good investment decisions within the constraints of limited resources (i.e., which projects to choose). It should focus on techniques that are utilized for making decisions, as well as the soft skills needed to manage stakeholders' expectations. It should also include a discussion of the benefits of those methods.

The session will be held at the NYS Forum location in Albany, and will also be available as a Webcast.

We are seeking facilitators, presenters and/or members of a panel for this session. We intend to have presentation(s) followed by a panel discussion that will include a question and answer (Q&A) component. You can propose to participate as a Presenter and/or a Panelist. The full session will last 1.5 hours. We encourage you to respond with a proposal, and if you know of government staff who may be a potential Presenter or Panelist, please forward their information.

The session is open to all NYS Forum members, and it would be of particular interest to Project Management practitioners, and Business Analysts and others aspiring to move into a PM role.

Presentation topics may include the following: These are only examples and we encourage you to think of other ideas that may be relevant.

Presentation and discussion topics could include:

  • Techniques used to determine which projects are chosen (e.g., rating projects based on expected value to be delivered by the project, resource requirements, and risk)
  • How to obtain stakeholder agreement based on an enterprise perspective
  • Managing stakeholder expectations as related to portfolio decisions
  • Benefits derived from using Portfolio Management techniques

All presentations must be vendor neutral. All presentations will be vetted by a group comprising members from The NYS Forum Work Groups hosting this event. Feedback and recommendations regarding final presentation material will be provided by this group.


Presentation Guidelines - Rules of Engagement

  • Presentation must be made using The NYS Forum's Power Point template.
  • Presentations must be vendor and product neutral.
  • Presenter corporate logo and contact information should appear on the first and last Power Point slides only. Corporate logo must not appear on each individual slide.
  • The presenter must discuss the topic at an expert level, and direct the presentation toward the specific targeted audience identified.
  • The presentation portion is limited to 45 minutes.
  • In order to maximize the value of the event for attendees, documents such as presentations, glossaries, checklists, etc. will be solicited from the presenter for posting to The Forum web site following the event.

  • 12/29/2017 - Deadline for proposals from vendors.
  • 1/10/2018- Selection/notification of presenters
  • 1/17/2018 - Deadline for first draft of presenter Power Points and related PLEASE NOTE: All PowerPoint presentations MUST be made on The NYS Forum PowerPoint template which will be provided by the workgroup member coordinating this event.
  • 2/02/2018 - Deadline for final presentation Power Points and related documents (1 week prior to event date). PLEASE NOTE: All Power Point presentations MUST be made on The NYS Forum Power Point template which will be provided by the workgroup member coordinating this event.
